VFW got an early start against JT. Garry when ryan nicholson hit a solo home run in the first inning. Kyle Ruth finished things off with a 2-run blast in the top of the 7th to help VFW hold off off a very game JT. Garry. Kyle Ruth and Jake Johnson shared in the pitching duties. Our next game was against Vellano Brothers and that one did’nt quite work out the way we had hoped. Vellano’s jump on us early and never let up. Friday night we were back in action going against CMC. Kyle Ruth, Nolan Smith and Jake Johnson shared in the pitching duties, holding CMC to just 3 hit’s and striking out 8. VFW pounded out nine hit’s, 4 of them going for extra bases. Jake Johnson 3 hit’s, Ryan Nicholson 2 triples and Kyle Ruth had 2 double’s and a single. The boy’s were very patience at bat, which allowed the team to earn 6 walks. the final score was VFW 9 CMC 6. sorry for the late update’s.

VFW dug themselve’s a big hole against Daily Gazette on sunday. They never gave up and kept on fighting, rallying twice only to come up on the losing end 17-13. Our defense was not the very best, two many error’s and mental mistakes, for us to over come. We must concentrate on defense, We always tell the boy’s, in this league you cannot give team’s 1 or 2 extra out’s in an inning. I know they will keep working. On the up side we hit the ball very hard and made the Gazette have to work hard on defense. Kyle ruth led the offense with his first homerun of the year and also added a double. Steven Celestino came through with a double and single. Kevin Ryder and Jake Johnson chipped in with a pair of single’s each. Our hitting is starting to come along, our new player’s are starting to adjust to the pitching. With a whole week off til are nxt game, we will be working hard a practice.

Vfw got back to thier winning ways on thursday night with a convincing win by a score of 14-4 over J&M Schwarz. Despite the cold weather and the strong winds, vfw pounded out 13 hits. Ryan nicholson got us started in the first inning with a 2 run blast to deep center. Ryan finished the night going 4 for 4. Nolan Smith ripped 2 triples, Kyle ruth was 3 for 4, Jake Johnson, Kevin Ryder and Steven Celestino also contributed 2 hit’s a piece. Vfw used 4 pitcher’s to hold J&M to 6 hit’s. Our defense was very strong, thanks to great defensive plays, like Collin Nicholsons catch out in right field, with the way the wind was blowing it could have blown the ball in any direction. With a great effort Thursday the Vfw boy’s had friday off and will be back at it Saturday with a tough matchup against 99 resturant.

Vfw battled Vellano brothers for six innings on tuesday nite in front of a packed house. The fans that came out to watch these two team’s went away saying” what’s in store when they meet up again”. The last two meetings between these teams went right down to the sixth inning. The vfw boy’s faced some of the best pitching Colonie little league has to offer and never backed down. Kyle ruth pitched one heck of a game never succumbing to the fierce Vellano line up. We did’nt hit the ball the way we wanted, but the boy’s were up there taking very good cuts. Chris Audi led the way with two singles and Ryan Nicholson added a double off the center field wall. With wednesday nite off we will ba back practicing thursday nite getting ready for Daily Gazette, which will be another tough challenge.

VFW started off a little slow today, but were able to stay in the game behind Ryan Nicholsons pitching and timely hitting. RYan struck out 14 elk’s hitter’s in 5 1/3 innings pitch, if not for Taylor Pfaffs line drive single in the bottom of the sixth, Ryan would have had his first no hitter. He know’s it is a long season and thier is still alot of work to ahead. Vfw was lead by Jake johnsons 3 hits and 3 Rbi’s, Joey lombardi also contributed 2 hit’s and scored 3 time’s. VFW know’s we have alot of work ahead if we want to 3 peat. We have vellano brother’s on tuesday and need to play almost perfect baseball in order to win this big show down. With a day off on sunday VFW will be back to work on monday. Good job today boy’s.

After a strong scrimmage agiant daily gazette on friday night vfw seems ready to be a stong contender for a 3 peat. The boy’s played well on defense, turning one double play and almost turning a second. On offense, the boy’s put the bat on the ball every time up making gazette work to make out’s. With solid pitching from Nolan Smith, Kyle ruth and Joey Lombardi vfw is ready for thier opener against Colonie elks. Good luck team. coach nicholson
